Kick-off event EAT SWEAT HAPPY on 21 March 2023, World Down Syndrome Day
The kick-off event was held with a total of 60 EAT SWEAT HAPPY participants.
The MC was Eriko, the eldest daughter of a childhood friend from primary school, wife of Haruhiro Hamaguchi of the Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars and who is an employee of Fuji TV.
Here are two heroes who contributed video letters to the EAT SWEAT HAPPY kick-off event.

Alex Ramirez
Ramirez is a former Hall of Fame baseball player and manager who has a child with Down syndrome. He is an ambassador for many companies and also runs his organisation, Vamos Together, which supports people with disabilities through several events and promotes sports participation for people with or without disabilities.
The gym CrossFit Motomachi Bay, of which he is the co-owner, promotes the participation of disabled people in sports by organising twice-weekly classes for disabled people.
The many social contributions he has been continuing to make led us to connect with him through all kinds of networks.
He has been a mentor to me since the start of Purple Heart Projects, giving me advice and support in my inexperience.

American Athlete with a Down-syndrome publication
「1% Better: Reaching My Full Potential and How You Can Too」
CHRIS NIKIC
American, 21 years old in 2020 in Hawaii, he became the first person with Down syndrome to complete a triathlon at the age of 21, winning the hearts of the American public, and is now a celebrity and ambassador for Adidas, appearing in commercials and as an ambassador for numerous brands and motivational speakers.
He has competed in triathlons to fulfil his dream of living independently with his girlfriend who has autism; in 2023 he completed marathons in six cities around the world; he has built his method called 1% Better and has published a book and a picture book; he is also a member of the National Council for the Advancement of the Arts; and he has been a member of the National Council for the Advancement of the Arts.
He taught me that taking little steps is the way to success, and when I came to Japan for the Tokyo Marathon in March 2023, I was able to work closely with him for a week as a co-ordinator. He is 25 years old and loves physical exercise and eating.
